Interview Without Coffee

Interview Without Coffee
British Army euphemism for a dressing down by a senior officer.

The revelation that Prince Harry, as a 21-year-old officer cadet on exercise in Cyprus in 2006, used the terms “Paki” and “raghead” to describe two of his comrades was greeted with anger and embarrassment. The prince issued a formal apology for his behaviour, and the The Guardian reported that the Army planned to deal with the incident in its usual way:

Prince Harry faces the prospect of what in polite army circles is called an interview without coffee – and in less polite ones “a bit of a bollocking.”
According to The Army Rumour Service, an “interview without coffee” is less severe than a “carpet parade,” which for officers is “normally preceded by the words ‘Your hat, my office,’” and for privates with the words ‘Soldier-and-Escort, by-the-right, Quick-MARCH …’”
Apparently, the Royal Air Force equivalent is being called to a “meeting with tea and no biscuits, or even no tea and no biscuits, depending on the gravity of your crime.”
